June is Alzheimer’s Awareness month. Currently, there are 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s and of those 52,000 are Kansans. This number is, sadly, only expected to rise in the future. For those of you who have had a loved one with dementia, you know how terrible the disease is.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, the disease kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined; it’s the 6th leading cause of death in Kansas too. Research continues to work towards a cure, but in the meantime you can show your support this month by visiting www.alz.org/abam/#goPurple. On this web site you can find a frame for your Facebook profile picture with the End Alz banner, share your story, or wear purple – the Alzheimer’s color.
Pine Village offers care for those with Alzheimer’s, but there are additional resources for caregivers at home too. Visit the Alzheimer’s Association web site at www.alz.org or you can call their 24/7 help hotline at 1.800.272.3900.
Together, we can find a cure for Alzheimer’s!
Be kind to one another!
